In a continuation of the CUAAHK’s Lunchtime Career Talk Series, we will be featuring industry veterans Eric Schaffer (CBS ‘18) and Gene Soo (CBS ’09) who will be sharing their insights on the technology and startup sectors.  The session will include panel discussion followed by a question and answer period.

The workshop will be conducted remotely via Zoom. Please note that this is event is only open to Columbia alumni and students. Please RSVP here. Zoom dial in will be sent out 24 hours before the event.

 

**Speakers**

Gene Soo

Gene Soo is the Head of Ecosystem at MTR. Having led the creation of Hong Kong's startup ecosystem by cofounding StartupsHK (now known as StartupsGBA), Gene now helps enhance the core MTR business with technology, partnerships, and new models. Prior to his role at MTR, Gene was the General Manager at Citymapper, leading its launch into Hong Kong in 2015. Since then, Citymapper has become the most complete transport app in Hong Kong, connecting MTR, buses, trams, ferries, and minibuses (including red ones).

Gene is passionate about improving open data practices in Hong Kong, and believes strongly in improving lives through investing in better design and technology. He received his BS and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University as well as MBA from Columbia University.

 

Eric Schaffer

Eric is an entrepreneurial commercial real estate professional who has led teams across geographies and asset classes. He was a Senior Director at WeWork, where he headed its APAC Real Estate Advisory practice. In that capacity, Eric managed a portfolio of over 200 commercial properties and has grown portfolio revenue by an average of $300m USD yoy. Eric has deep experience in the real estate industry, having held senior positions at Core Capital Asia, Cushman & Wakefield, and Paragon Principal Capital in the past.  He is bilingual and has worked in Shanghai and New York before moving to Hong Kong.

 Eric received his BA in History from Emory University, and his MBA from Columbia University. Additionally, he holds a degree in Chinese Language and Literature from East China Normal University.
